Surrounded by the Hida Mountains, the old townscape that retains the remnants of the Edo period,
Takayama is a town where history and traditional culture are alive and where you can feel the good old Japan. The busiest times for the old town are when they host spring and autumn festivals in April and October. Takayama is also a gateway for visiting Japan alps destinations such as Shirakawa-go, Kamikochi, Kurobe Tateyama Alpine Route and Shinhotaka.
